Behind much? That's OK though, at the beginning of the challenge I told myself that I would not get discouraged if I got behind and couldn't get finished in exactly 90 days. I'm OK with the fact that it may take 90 days or 100 days or 150 days. My main goal in this challenge is not to finish in 90 days but to make it a habit to spend time daily in the Word. I want to get to know the Lord through his Word and I want Him to use it to mold me into who He has meant for me to be. So today I may or may not get finished with Exodus, Ive got a sick little boy today and plan on spending the day watching movies and reading with him, but I do plan to spend at least 15 minutes in the Word. I think the Lord cares more about us diligently spending time with Him and in His Word than about how fast we can read through the Bible. Today I'll be reading Genesis 41-50:26. Doing this challenge has been amazing already and I'm only on day 4! I praise the Lord for the amazing things that he has shown me already! As I was driving the kids to school this morning I was pondering some of the things that I've read so far. Then the Lord revealed something to me. He didn't not pick perfect people to use in his perfect plan. He chose people that love him but continue to fail and stumble, people that continually have to ask for forgiveness and rely on him. Just in the portion of Scripture that I've read these are the people that I've encountered:

Adam and Eve-committed to the first sin

Noah-got drunk

Abraham-had other wives, lied

Sarah-didn't trust the Lord in his promise to give them children so gave her servant to Abraham to bear them a child then dealt harshly with her servant after she became pregnant

Lot-got drunk

Isaac-lied

Jacob-stole his brother's blessing, tricked his brother out of his birth right, had other wives

Rachel-envious of her sister, stole, lied

Sons of Jacob-killed, looting, jealousy, sold their brother into slavery, lied

I'm sure I left some things out. But you see the Lord didn't not pick perfect people that never did anything wrong, make mistakes, or struggled. He used their imperfections. He disciplined them and the grew stronger. God perfectly made people imperfect. He uses our weakness to help us grow and to learn to depend on him. If he made us perfect why would we ever need to depend on him for anything? So stop focusing on your failures and short comings, rejoice in the fact that you are not perfect. Rejoice in the fact that the Lord is daily using your imperfections to bring you closer to him.

When you are feeling down about your weaknesses, or you are struggling, or you feel like you are a failure remember these verses:

"My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weakness, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weakness, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong." 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

"And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." Philippians 1:6

*I'm sure as I do more studying I will come back and add more verses for you, who knows their may even be a part 2 to this post!

Bible in 90 Days

One of my favorite blogs In the Nursery of the Nation posted about a challenge to read the Bible in 90 days! You can check here to see the schedule. It seems hard but I'm planning on breaking the each days reading down into 2 different times a day instead of sitting down and reading it all at once. I started today reading Genesis 1:1-16:16, Ive read Genesis 1:1-8:19 this morning and plan on reading the rest after I put the kiddos to bed. Read here to learn more about the challenge and how important it is to spend daily time in the Word.

New Year

I began the year reflection on Isaiah 61. This is one of my favorite chapters. 2011 was a tough year for me. No I didn't have any major traumas or tragedies but I fought a lot of internal battles. But I vow to make 2012 different. I vow to hold steadfast to the Lord and his promises. I will no longer hold on to defeat and continue to be in bondage. I think my struggles have been the Lord's way of showing me things in myself that I need to change and improve. I'm going to hold fast in the Lord and depend totally on him to guide me and strengthen me in the changes I need to make. I will no longer allow myself to walk in defeat and focus on the the things that I'm not. I'm going to let the Lord change me and help me grow. I know by strengthening my relationship with him I will be changed. So please be patient with me as I'm growing, changing, and learning new skills. How will you let the Lord change you in 2012?

"For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not evil, to give you a future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

"And I will give you a new heart and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh."
